About the Item

We kindly suggest that you read the whole description, as with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. An original and valuable Italian coffee table; the solid frame is made of black lacquered oak, the four legs with a square section are tapered downward, and at the top, they are connected by two crosspieces that support the round top on which a black glass been placed; the most interesting feature is the masterfully executed border made of woven river straw. The coffee table was made between 1950 and 1955 in a craft workshop on the Veneto coast of Lake Garda (Italy), an area where the object's two raw materials, wood and river straw, were readily available. River straw, more commonly known as Erba Palustre, is a plant that is born and grows spontaneously along the course of rivers or lakes; the 'marsh grass is at first harvested by hand and left to dry naturally, the blades of grass thus obtained, are wet and twisted by hand until a first-rate yarn of extreme strength is obtained. The choice of the harvesting period of this plant is the main trick to be able to guarantee the ideal thickness and length of the yarn. The art of hand-weaving chairs, sofas, and armchairs with this type of straw dates back to the earliest times. Master craftsmen with their lively inventiveness have over time subverted the canonical use of this material by incorporating it into bedside tables and tables, creating elegant and refined objects. In our coffee table with the combination of lacquered wood, black glass, and river straw, the artisans have succeeded in creating a charming, sought-after, and compelling piece of furniture, which by virtue of its extreme elegance and soft romantic line, makes it versatile and easily placed in any setting. The coffee table has been hand-treated with ancient restoration techniques by our team of craftsmen and is in excellent condition. Measurements diameter cm.62, height cm.62. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.
