About the Item

A sublime fusion of Asian-inspired elegance and mid-century design acuity, this pagoda-style coffee table by John Wisner for Ficks Reed embodies both form and narrative flair. Circa 1950s and conceived as part of Wisner’s iconic Far Horizons collection, the table channels the essence of East-West synthesis with its gently upturned “pagoda” handles and architectural silhouette. The table features a robust bamboo and rattan build, meticulously joined and bound in cane with twisted wrap details at every intersection. The raised mango-wood parquet-style tray surface remains original and exhibits a luminous sheen that enhances the rich warmth of the honeyed weave. Its thoughtfully elevated ends and integrated handles offer subtle sculptural lift and practical intention—perfect for serving or display. Measuring approximately 67¼ inches long, 19 inches deep, and 15 inches high, this piece commands visual presence without overwhelming proportion—an ideal centerpiece for relaxed living spaces, screened porches, or lush lounges. It remains in carefully restored, elevation-ready condition with vibrant surface tone and enduring structural integrity. Wisner’s legacy at Ficks Reed is rooted in his ability to harmonize natural materiality with modernist proportions. This pagoda form exemplifies his fascination with Eastern motifs and American refinement, rendering the piece both exotic and elegant. It continues to resonate in interiors that prize organic balance, sculptural warmth, and collectible mid-century authenticity. This unique bamboo and rattan pagoda style coffee table was designed by John Wisner for Ficks Reed, circa 1950s. John Wisner graduated from Parsons School Of Design in 1935 and designed for both private clients, and corporate clients including Dorothy Draper and Ficks Reed, where he was noted for his ‘Far Horizons’ collection of 1954 which incorporated eastern elements. This classic piece of eastern influenced modern American design boasts beautifully sculpted bamboo and rattan with wrapped binder cane joints. The honey colored parquet style woven raffia tray bottoms have an almost iridescent sheen that adds a touch of glam to the exotic look.

Vintage Heywood Wakefield Wheat Finish X Base Square Coffee Table
By Heywood-Wakefield Co.
Located in Chattanooga, TN
There's a rich, deep, aged honey patina on this wheat finish birch / maple. We achieved a a near perfect muted grain and color match to the top surface that we delicately restored. This sleek, study, understated and classic modern coffee table embraces mid-century minimalism design. The "X" base with intersecting spanners adds an appealing architectural elegance that remains timeless to this day. Sculpted, and assembled with no visible hardware. This restored Heywood-Wakefield 392-G square coffee table is an elegant expression of mid-century minimalism, crafted in the signature wheat-maple finish that has made the brand so revered. It measures approximately 36 inches by 36 inches (91 × 91 cm) across the top, and stands about 15.75 inches (40 cm) high — a scale that delivers both generous surface area and low, relaxed visual impact. The design is beautifully composed: a square tabletop with softened edges floats above an intersecting “X”-base, with crossed stretchers that add structural elegance and visual interest without heaviness. The wheat finish has a muted grain: blond tones, subtle warmth, and a light yet rich surface that reflects light softly while grounding surrounding furnishings. The craftsmanship is clean: wood joints are refined, hardware is concealed, allowing the form and wood grain to speak. Restoration has been carried out with great attention to authenticity. The tabletop has been professionally refinished to match original specifications: color, finish sheen, and grain pattern restored. Minor imperfections remain — tiny surface marks and perhaps slight variances on the X-base spanners — but these serve as testament to its vintage provenance rather than detractions. The legs and base are solid and stable; the table presents as both handsome and durable. Because of its proportions and design, this piece works beautifully in a range of interiors. It can anchor a sprawling seating area in a living room, serve as the central gathering point in a lounge, or provide surface and sculptural presence in modern or Scandinavian-light-wood interiors. Its square silhouette allows symmetry in layout; its wheat finish harmonizes with wood tones, brass or matte metal accents, soft upholstery, and even minimalist or muted color palettes. We're certain you won't find a more sublime vintage rendition of this coffee table anywhere. Stamped by the maker with illegible date. Excellent restored vintage condition. Top has been professionally refinished by our in-house cabinet shop.Only very minor age appropriate imperfections remain on the legs and spanners. Heywood Wakefield Coffee Table...
