Elegant and particular Italian Art Dèco coffee table in cherry wood; the upper top, with the wavy edge is enriched by a round glass with delicate and refined engravings depicting stylized zodiac signs. Exceptional is the graceful and harmonious design of the legs that connect with each other to support the further underlying wooden top; a slender, pleasant, and sophisticated aesthetic whole. The coffee table was handcrafted with cherry wood in northern Italy between 1950 and 1955 in the style of Paolo Buffa; we know for certain that the architect Buffa used, for the construction of his furniture, cabinetmakers Lombardy of recognized ability that used very refined materials because the objects were intended primarily for the apartments of the rich Milanese bourgeoisie, our table with its characteristics of quality, accuracy and finish, was almost certainly made to one of those master craftsmen. Paolo Buffa (1903-1970) was an Italian architect and designer known for his mid-century furniture designs. Characterized by a fusion of tradition and modernity, he used a combination of low-profile, straight, curved forms in fine woods to produce his most classic pieces. Paolo Buffa began working in Gio Ponti's studio and later, from 1928, as period documentation shows, in close collaboration with architect A. Cassi Ramelli. He devoted himself mainly to furniture, designing furniture by continuously proposing new models. More than a forerunner, he was a faithful spokesman of the taste of his time: first neoclassical and then 20th century. Paolo Buffa was highly esteemed internationally for his refined design and rigorous execution, displaying a competence that was singularly Italian. Before his death in 1970 in Milan, Italy, Buffa had been named one of the country's most important designers. Our coffee table is in good condition also because it has undergone a conservative restoration. Measures diameter cm.66, height cm.50. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.
