About the Item

This is the Swedish Art Deco coffee table attributed to David Blomberg, manager and designer at Nordiska Kompaniet in Stockholm. It comes with a beautiful shiny dodecagonal, twelve sided, flower shaped table top with a squared pattern of birch, oak and stained oak, surrounded by a blackened softly shaped raised border. The tabletop rests on an interlocking hexagonal oak base with six rounded blackened legs and ball-shaped feet. This table was designed in 1915 and manufactured sometime in the 1910-1930s, probably later than 1917 in Sala Möbelfabrik. ____________________ David Blomberg was a famous Swedish architect and designer, mainly active during the first half of the 20th century. He was born in Lindesberg in Örebro country on 1 February 1874. After education at the Technical School in Stockholm and the corresponding school in Germany, Blomberg devoted himself to architectural art and handicrafts. He practiced decorative painting with, among others, Agi Lindegren and Carl Grabow and read Theoretical Furniture Studies in Berlin and Leipzig. For nine years he had employments outside Sweden. In 1902, David Blomberg was employed at the department store NK, Nordiska Kompaniet in Stockholm, where he started the store's first furniture department and became its manager. He later became the department store's manager until 1927 when he left the company. It was David Blomberg who designed the logo for Nordiska Kompaniet that can be seen on the spinning NK-clock on the building's roof in central Stockholm. In 1917 he established his own two companies. Sala Möbelfabrik and an architect and interior design firm with address on Kungsgatan in Stockholm, which would prove to be very successful. Many famous architects ordered furniture from him. He participated in many furniture exhibitions. In addition to several Swedish cities, also in London, St. Petersburg, Paris, Cologne and Barcelona. among others. David Blomberg died on 7 March 1962 at the age of 88 in Danderyd, Stockholm.
