Johanna Grawunder is a designer and architect based in Milan, Italy and San Francisco. Her works spans a broad range of projects and scales, from large-scale public installations, to architecture and interiors, to limited edition furniture and lights for various galleries in Europe and the USA. She also designs products for select companies including Flos, Boffi, and Glas Italia among others. Recent work includes private commissions for lights, furniture and interiors, as well as large scale lighting installations. For the Freeport Singapore, she designed a permanent installation of “light ceilings” through out the building, as well as a unique light façade. And for Robert, in the Museum of Art and Design, NYC, she designed a total light ceiling covering the entire space. Her work has been shown and is included in many museum permanent collections, including LACMA, FNAC, San Francisco MOMA and the High Museum Atlanta. She worked with Sottsass Associati from 1985-2001, becoming a partner in 1989. At the Sottsass Studio she was involved primarily with architecture and interiors, co-designing with Ettore Sottsass, many of the firm’s most prestigious projects. In 2001 she left Sottsass Associati and opened her own studio in San Francisco and Milan. Graduating in 1984 from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo with a Bachelor of Architecture degree, she completed her final year of studies in Florence, Italy and in 1985 moved to Milan. BISEL Coffee Table, by Patricia Urquiola for Glas Italia IN STOCK
By Patricia Urquiola, Glas Italia
Located in Brooklyn, NY
Collection of high tables, low tables and console, made in multi-layered and multichromatic glass, created by laminating five slabs of 5mm extralight glass each with a different colored film. The obtained glass sheets are in different shapes, shiny ground polished and “faceted” by means of unique bevels accentuating through the transparency of the glass the stunning multicolored material. The different components are then welded together in total clarity, by means of a special gluing technique, so creating very precious “furniture jewels”. Available in green or ochre finish.
Patricia Urquiola was born in Oviedo (Spain) in 1961. Lives and works in Milan. She attended the School of Architecture of Madrid Polytechnic and Milan Polytechnic, where she graduated in 1989 with Achille Castiglioni. From 1990 to 1992 she was assistant lecturer to both Achille Castiglioni and Eugenio Bettinelli in Milan and Paris. From 1990 to 1996 she was responsible for the new product development office of DePadova, working with Vico Magistretti. In 1996 she became head of Lissoni Associati’s design group. In 2001 she opens her own studio working on product design, architecture, installations.
