Indo-Portuguese furniture. These pieces are a result of the Portuguese expansion of the 16th and 17th centuries to the orient which originated a hybrid style of European shapes and oriental decoration using raw material from the area. Teak, sissoo, ivory, ebony, silver and gilt copper were the most commonly used in manufacture that several times presented a veneers or "marcheterie" decoration.
