About the Item

18TH Century, Monumental Pair of Italian Neoclassical Giltwood Consoles Measurements: total: L 186 x P 95 x H 94 cm; marble top: L 186 x P 95, thickness 4 cm; wooden structure L 184 x P 94 x H 90 This pair of elegant consoles, of impressive size, was made in the Tuscan area in the second half of the eighteenth century. The quadrangular top is in Seravezza marble. The wooden structure of the consoles is finely carved and gilded mecca. The underside band, with frames carved with palmette and geometric patterns, has a carved decoration with circles and scrolls phytomorphic inspired classical art. Near the corners, inside quadrangular frames are carved female faces. At the center stands a large coat of arms referred to the noble family who commissioned the consoles. The coat of arms describes inside an oval laurel leaf frame, an eagle with lowered flight between two pairs of cypresses, crowned by a sun. The four legs originate from a capital with circular abacus and large acanthus leaf volutes developed downwards. The stem of the legs has an inverted and grooved cone trunk. It ends with acanthus leaves and an elongated ball foot, adorned with foliated patterns. These consoles certainly come from an important noble palace, as reported by the presence of heraldry, prestigious in their carving and bright thanks to the golden mecca. They can be exhibited in pairs in an entrance hall or a salon, but also individually in different spaces. They are suitable for both antique and modern furniture. The mecca is a type of gilding performed on silver leaf for this to take on the appearance and preciousness of the gold leaf. The mecca is a paint from the ancient recipe that was jealously guarded in the shops. It involves the use of sandracca rubber and gutta rubber in alcohol, dragon blood and other ingredients that, in a mixture of them, contribute to the different chromatic elements of mecca.

18th Century, Pair of Italian Neoclassical Lacquered and Giltwood Consoles
Located in IT
18th century, pair of Italian neoclassical lacquered and giltwood consoles This pair of consoles was made in the second half of the 18th century in the neoclassical era, in Naples (Italy) The carved and lacquered wooden consoles are composed of two half-moon tops lacquered with fake jasper. The band below the floor is sculpted in the ways of Classic grooved friezes, lacquered with light color and gold. The four legs are also grooved lacquered and golden and end in quadrangular feet. These consoles are very elegant and refined for the simplicity of their line and color. Consoles with two shelves are also quite rare. These allow greater flexibility in their use: in fact, in the lower shelf it is possible to expose, for example, vases with flowers, porcelain, books or other decorative objects in addition to what is placed above or offend the ability to lighten the top floor from too many objects. For their small size and especially for the particular depth of the floors, very narrow, and for the distinctly decorative character, these consoles are easily inserted in any environment. They are in fact perfect in the entrances or in the corridors, in a living room or a study, exposed in pairs or individually. The light color also makes them pleasant next to antique and modern furniture.
