Burled Walnut Console Table, American, Herter Brothers, 19th Century

About the Item

Gorgeous burled walnut console table from the 19th century, with two drop leaves and a single pull drawer, most probably made by the Herter brothers. The table is raised on turned legs with an H form stretcher. This piece has a gorgeous patina and bookmarked veneer. The lines are simple but the craftsmanship is exquisite, and the piece has a good weight. Leaves fold down with ease, making it very versatile as a sofa table, end table or console table. We believe this piece might have been made by the Herter Brothers, an American furniture making company that created furniture and interiors for many prominent clients of the Gilded age, including J. Pierpont Morgan and William Henry Vanderbilt. Examples of Herter furniture are in major public collections in the United States. 28" High by 50.5" wide and 22.5" deep. Closed the table measures 29" wide.
