About the Item

Console table, Made with cherry wood. Lacquered in black. Central drawer, with brass handle. Carved hoof legs. Very decorative. XVIII Century, France Good vintage condition. Louis XV (in French, Louis Quinze) is an artistic style, mainly in the field of decorative arts, which corresponds to the reign of Louis XV (1715-1774), which follows the Regency of Philip of Orleans (1715-1723 ), a period for which the name "Regency Style" is used. Initially the name "Louis XV Style" referred to a characteristic type of chair, but it soon spread to all the arts of its time. The style was, therefore, a creation of the cabinetmakers, as a result of a greater technical advance in the manufacture of chairs. The perfect fit of the assemblies and the resistance of the wood made it possible to eliminate the thick entretoises, to lighten the shells and improve legs. Extended to different aspects of interior decoration, especially when it comes to complete projects carried out by ornemanistes (decorators), it is identified with the architectural style called Rococo.
