About the Item
This console table in blackened burnt ash (Shou Sugi Ban) was designed to be an entry table or hallway table in a small home. The lines are clean, yet engaging and distinct. Shou sugi ban is the technique of literally burning the wood and then sealing in the rich charcoal color with oil and wax. We slightly burnish the charred wood after burning to expose some of the color of the ash as you can see in one of the detailed pictures. The shape of the table is deceptively simple. The top has symmetrical gentle curves bowing out on all four of its sides. The legs taper as well as transition from square at the top to round at the bottom. The dimensions pictured lend to its elegant profile, but we are open to making the piece in custom sizes. The pictured piece is shou sugi ban ash with a natural oil and wax finish. Various woods and finishes are available.

Boyd & Allister is a custom furniture studio located in Santa Fe, New Mexico. We have been hand making furniture for designers and architects around the country since 2010. We custom make each piece using traditional joinery methods and hand select each piece of wood. We source our wood from small sawyers around the country who bring the same level of care to their craft as we bring to ours. Many of our designs are inspired by mid century masters; timeless with clean lines, allowing the beauty of the wood to shine.
Table can be built without burning in Walnut, Ash, White Oak and Cherry
In the shou sugi ban finish we use an oil and wax as a top coat after charring. If a non burnt finish is desired we can use either an oil and wax or a low sheen spray finish for no additional cost
