About the Item
An elegant and most decorative Italian mid 18th century Louis XVI Period Giltwood, Mirror and marble console and mirror. This exceptional and palatially scaled matching console and mirror are raised on a single central leg supported on a mottled block plinth with cut sides. Above is the fluted column with burnished bottom scrolls, while at the top is a large carved acanthus leaf above a berried laurel garland. Two mottled and scrolled supports flank the column, while decorated with recessed panels accented with foliate scrolls and supporting the top. The Alabastro Fiorito top is set in within a wonderful and large scale fluted Giltwood edge guard. The impressive mirror above retains all of its original mirror plates and gilding throughout. The mirror plates are surrounded by a delicate inner twisted ribbon trim and a central elongated acanthus leaf band. On the outer edge is an attractive mottled edge. The top of the mirror displays a separate crown with a wave like design atop of a hammered background. All original gilt throughout.
