Mid-19th Century French Louis Philippe Walnut Tailor´s Table

About the Item

A Louis Philippe tailor's table or cutting table (‘table de tailleur’ or ‘table de coupe’) with metre sticks. France, mid 19th century. Walnut with excellent patina. An elegant shop table or goods display table for high-quality retail shops, which can also be beautifully positioned as a console table or serving table in the living or dining area. Rectangular table frame consisting of 4 baluster-shaped turned legs with H-brace and frame. At the back, made of pine wood, 2 pull-out bars on which the fabric roll could be placed. There is also a drawer, which was probably used to store tailor's chalk, pincushions and scissors. Underneath a shelf for the metre rule. Solid one-piece walnut board tabletop with very beautiful grain and slightly rounded edges. Includes 1 metre rule and 3 half-metre rules. Dimensions Height: 87 cm / 34.25 inch. Width: 165 cm / 64.96 inch. Depth: 60 cm / 23.62 inch. Internal dimensions of the drawer: 8 cm (3.14 in.) high, 55.5 cm (21.85 in.) wide, 43 cm (16.92 in.) deep. This high-quality shop furniture must undoubtedly have originally been made for a very noble tailor or similar in the period from around 1830 to 1860. A rare authentic piece with slight signs of age-related wear including old woodworm channels (not active!). Stable and ready to use. Pull-out bars renewed. The surface was carefully cleaned without destroying the beautiful patina. Then polished with wax. Additional photos available. Please just send a message.
