About the Item

A fine pair of Italian neoclassical Biedermeier Walnut Veneered consoles with ebonized legs and extraordinary provenance, c. 1830. A single drawer console of walnut veneer sits atop a pair of ebonized scrolled tapered legs, in the front, and straight tapered legs, in the back. Sitting on a D shaped base made of walnut veneer. Truly stunning pieces which exude simple elegance in a room. Measures: 22.5" deep x 46.25" wide x 36.25" high Provenance: Villa Sassoli de' Bianchi de Medici, San Sisto, Bologna. It was bought by Marchese Filippo Sassoli de' Bianchi de Medici over 120 years ago with the contents of the Villa. The previous owners were another very old bolognese family, Conti Panzacchi, very wealthy as they were for at least three centuries notary publics, a very enriching profession in Italy since a very long time. They where shipped to New York by Count Riccardo Sassoli de' Bianchi de Medici to furnish the former Wanamacher's cottage in First Neck Lane in Southampton, New York, when he bought in 1978. Condition: Fading, earlier restorations to veneer, some loss to veneer. Good stable condition.

Good stable condition. More fading to one console. Possible to use as is but restoration needed to bring it to its full glory.

An outstanding French Oak Double Pedestal Dining Table. A double pedestal oak extension dining table by Albert Guenot, c. 1940. Substantial, sculptural pedestal legs Extension leaves pull out from either end of table by pulling edge down and pulling leaves out to extend. Includes two 21.5" leaves which extends the table to 119.5" wide 76.5" wide x 42" deep x 29" high, 3" apron Good overall condition. Light wear to surface. Albert-Lucien Guenot (1894-1993) Guenot was a French decorator and furniture designer, born in Arcueil-Cachan, and schooled at the Ecole Boulle in Paris. Guenot immersed himself in “The Moderne Style” by working as a designer in the studio of Maurice Dufrene, in sculpted wood with Laurent Malcles, in sculpture with Paul Follot, in ironwork for Edgar Brandt, and briefly for architect Rene Crevel. From 1923 the balance of his career was at the Pomone design studio of Au Bon Marche department store in Paris. He became the chef d’atelier under director, Paul Follot.
