Created in Northeastern China during the Qing Dynasty, this long elm console table made in the region of Shandong during the second half of the 19th century is covered with an exquisite deep black lacquer with gold rubbed red lacquered details. The apron and the base are nicely carved with typical Chinese motifs such as cloud scrolls and geometrical patterns. An elegant motif in the calligraphic style adorns the legs, and is accented by the gold rubbed details. The sides with openwork are adorned with stylized vegetable motifs.
