About the Item

Rare two-tier console in Macassar ebony , a variation of the console originally created by Ruhlmann in 1915. The rectangular top, framed by an elegant gadroon, rests on four tall, slightly curved legs. Stamped ‘Ruhlmann’. Reference number 1026AR and 1206NR for a variant with folding shelves in the Ruhlmann Archives, Musée des Années 30, Boulogne . Provenance: Quay-Lombrail, 22 avril 1997, Drouot Montaigne, lot 19. Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann (1879-1933) was a French furniture designer and interior decorator and one of the most important and influential figures of the Art Deco movement, even considered by some the godfather of French Art Deco. His designs are characterized through elegance and purity of form, made with precious materials and expert craftsmanship, combining luxuriousness with modernity.
