19th Century English Regency Painted Gesso Gilded Distressed Small Writing Table

About the Item

19th Century English Regency painted & gilt gesso distressed small writing table. Circa 1820. The table is in untouched condition, with the original blue-green painted finish and gilt gesso. It oozes charm with its heavily distressed finish. The top has a rosewood banded edge with a leather and gilt tooled inset, matching the colour of the paint. The table is made of pine, with much of the gilt gesso having losses, though the rest is stable enough. There are marks to the leather inset, and wear to the rosewood polish. The table itself is very sound and solid, and there are no repairs or restoration. There appears to have originally been a turning to the central stretcher. The table has some slight movement down to its design, but is still very usable. The drawer works well and has a turned wooden handle.
