Antique circa 1850 Patrick Beakey Dublin Oxblood Leather Demilune Gallery Desk

About the Item

We are delighted to offer for sale this stunning rare and original Mid Victorian circa 1850-1860 Partick Beakey of Dublin Ireland Demi Lune Library writing table or desk with oxblood leather writing top and brass gallery rail A very rare and luxury desk made by one of the finest cabinet makers in Ireland. The piece is fully stamped to the inside of one of the drawers, P Beakey, Cabinet Maker and Upholsterer, Stafford Street, Dublin, the locks are also stamped Secure Lever with the Royal Armorial coat of Arms The desk is very decorative sporting the original Oxblood leather writing surface, it has a variation of drawers all of which have the original Gothic handles, the top has a patinated bronze, brass gallery rail which was super popular in the early 19th century. The desk is of course demi lune / half moon which is super rare as this shape was usually reserved for console and side tables. This really is a piece of art furniture and looks expensive and important from any angle The desk is in fine order throughout, it’s in the original unrestored condition with the original finish, we have cleaned waxed and polished it but that’s it, the patina is 100% period. The oxblood leather top is in nice order and complements the mahogany timber well. The desk will have normal patina marks based on honest age and fair use.
