About the Item

Veneered Pedestal Desk designed by Carl Malmsten (1923) Desk includes floral motifs, a central frieze drawer, and twin pedestals (frieze drawers with veneered initials T.L). One opens to five sliding shelves, and the other to five drawers. The feet utilize a stylized shell decoration. Dovetail joints are used throughout the piece to achieve a seamless construction. Auction research shows that this desk is closely related in design to another Malmsten piece given to Swedish crown prince Gustav (VI) Adolf and Louise Mountbatten as a wedding gift in 1923.
