Gio Ponti Writing desk Vetrocoke furnitures, tempered glass wood, 1939

About the Item

This elegant small desk is made of toughened glass panes joined by brass and metal junctions and with a wood chest of drawers, just as the two bases are made of wood. The design of this piece is related to other office furniture created for Vetrococke, a major company active in the field of coke coal and glass production. The choice of tempered glass is therefore not accidental, and thus, alongside the aesthetic and functional value of a writing desk, this piece is a testament to the growth of Italian industry in the 1900s. Gio Ponti is a master who accompanied the entire history of Italian design and who signed, as in this case, innovative furniture for companies in growing production sectors.
