Invest in a piece of design history with this outstanding custom designed dining set by Steve Chase. Recently procured from an extraordinary coastal cliff top home in Laguna Beach which was custom designed in it's entirety by prolific Southern California based designer Steve Chase. The set includes eight cantilever dining chairs, two demi-lune cracked glass top tables with a chrome base, two charcoal leather banquettes, one granite topped pedestal/room divider and one extra large rug.
Work on the house began in the early 1980's and was expanded and completed by the end of that decade. Chase performed as the interior designer as well as being involved through the construction phase from start to finish. Every piece of furniture, built-in cabinetry, millwork, hearth and shelving was custom made to fit precisely to the home, featuring a generous amount of lucite, which Chase was well known for incorporating in his work, including an impressive three inch thick solid lucite banister running up a curved stairwell. The owners developed a close friendship with Chase and they travelled together on numerous occasions.
These custom designed dining pieces were originally part of the exquisite dining room, which as you can see in the photos provided, was uniquely Chase. These pieces embody Chase's signature design aesthetic, as described in his own words; deliberate, unexpected and with touch of humor. The demi-lune tables feature a thick crackle glass top that Chase often utilized in his work that is encased in a chrome banding around the edges this top is supported by a sturdy demi lune chrome base. The glass surface is fabricated of three layers. The top and the bottom are pieces of smoked glass and the middle is comprised of a layer of crackle glass which displays multiple veining and sections to create a textured, eye catching design. The chairs reflect the style of Milo Baughman for Thayer Coggin, featuring swooping chrome cantilevered bases supporting sleekly curved barrel shaped chairs upholstered in the original light gray mohair, a particularly on-trend color right now. The banquettes feature channel tufting in a charcoal gray leather, of which are both are also particularly on-trend right now and a strip of chrome casing that surrounds the bases.
So get your hands on a fragment of an incredible story with these time honored dining pieces you can regale to your guests about for years to come. These items can be used together or individually in a dining room, living room or family room. They would also be an apt choice for a corporate, retail or hospitality location such as a boutique hotel, restaurant, cocktail bar, members club, conference room, workspace studio, executive office or in a luxe clothing emporium.
