About the Item

Beautiful and authentic Dutch Renaissance table made in solid European Summer oak. The top was made in three wide boards of oak and has a fantastic grain pattern and a weathered surface. The table was stripped of stain and wax layers a few decades ago. The table shows the natural warm grey weathered oak color throughout and that gives the table a rustic appearance. The table rests on four turned baluster-shaped legs, so-called 'bolpoten'. It has a moulded apron and stretcher base giving stability and durability to the table. The top comes off easily due to the mortise and tenon construction fixed with wooden pens. This table originates in the Netherlands and dates circa 1720. This table has clearly been used intensively and it shows the markings of many years of duty. These tables were used for dining, working, and other purposes. They were generally used extensively and that would leave markings. This particular table has small pieces of timber inserted in its top. The aprons on the short sides are made in solid pine, while the rest of the table is made in solid oak. The baluster-shaped turned legs show woodworm holes. These are old holes. Nonetheless, the table was treated as a whole against woodworm. The stretcher shows the wear one would expect in accordance with the rest of the table. The table has been gently cleaned in our atelier and the piece is now very sturdy and ready for use.
