About the Item

This is a beautifully worn 18th century French refectory table, handcrafted from solid oak. The table features a long, narrow top made from one slab of wood, resting on two sledge-style trestle legs connected by a central stretcher. The surface bears the marks of age and use — including monogram carvings, notches, and a rich patina — all of which speak to its authentic character and history. Originally used in a communal setting, likely a monastery or rural household, this piece combines rustic elegance with robust craftsmanship. The joinery is entirely traditional, with pegged mortise-and-tenon construction and no metal fasteners. Its timeworn surface and practical proportions make it a striking centerpiece for both classic and contemporary interiors. The clean lines and natural texture make it a versatile piece ideal as a dining table, hallway console, or accent table behind a sofa.
