19th Century French Provincial Solid Chestnut Trestle Dining Table

About the Item

A 19th century French provincial trestle table handcrafted of solid chestnut by talented artisans in the Normandy region of France, circa 1890s. This beautiful French dining table has a rectangular plank top supported by carved trestle bases that each feature a carved out spade design and are resting on plinth bases joined by a center stretcher. Spades, or piques as they're called in France, represented the nobility, standing in for the lances of knights. Versatile as well as functional, it comfortably seats 8 and can also be used as a console, library, or sofa table because of its narrow depth. Retaining its beautiful rich color and patina, it has a fresh French polish that allows the wood to shine. Whether you're enjoying a family dinner or hosting a gathering or event, your family and guests will feel welcome and comfortable seated around this beautiful French dining table.
