About the Item
Table with metal base made of MDF lined beechwood. The base is bent, galvanised metal, oven-painted with acrylic grey color.
Measures: 86 cm x 140 cm x 76 cm
The adjacent stool (one) is made of compressed MDF, lined with beechwood.
Measures: 46 cm x 38 cm x 46 cm
This table and stool are structured in two different traditional craftsmen's workshops on the island of Tinos, in Cyclades, Greece.
The furniture of this collection was presented firstly in the exhibition "The poetics of Matter", which was organised by the architect Maria Vidali in collaboration with the video-artist Theophilo Ieropoulo and the semiologist Rea Wallden. The exhibition aimed to reveal the procedure followed by matter becoming furniture through the Tinian craftsman. They were participating eight carpenters, a marble sculptor and two smiths. The eleven craftsmen created furniture on Maria Vidali's design work. The modern design of the furniture becomes materialised through the work of craftsmen using traditional, contemporary as well as individual techniques. Furniture of the collection were selected and participated in the big exhibition Greek design, good design in Athens 2013. The furniture is numbered and their production limited.
