About the Item

This spectacular table, designed by Romeo Rega, is made of steel, brass and mirrored glass. Rega’s furniture is characterized by geometric shapes and reduced forms. His designs are almost always gilded, chromed, or brass-plated, which adds the allure and elegance that Rega is known for, to his clean-lined modernist pieces. Born in Rome in 1904, Romeo Rega is one of the leading designers of the second half of the 20th century. The brand was launched on 31 December 1969, starting a fantastic production of chandeliers, chairs, tables and etagere identified by his double 'R' logo. Its production ceased in 1981. Not many aspects of Rega's personal or professional life are known. Fortunately, his legacy has not been lost. Many of his drawings and notes have recently passed through auctions to the delight of collectors. Romeo Rega's furniture is characterised by geometric shapes tending towards minimalism. His artefacts are almost always gold-plated, chrome-plated or brass-plated, thus creating the charm and elegance for which Rega is known. The collaboration with Willy Rizzo (1928-2013) and the prestigious designer Gabriella Crespi (1922-2017) has been decidedly fruitful and has produced objects of unique elegance. Coffee tables and garden lounges, bar furniture, tables, objects and highly original lamps. Thanks to this ingenious production, Rega's work is popular with lovers of what is known in the United States as the Hollywood Regency style.

He is 27 years old when, in 1957, he enrolls in the Albo provinciale delle imprese artigiane (Provincial Register of Craft Enterprises) and opens his first workshop in Vicolo della Frusta 6, where he collaborates with talented masters of wrought iron and forging. At this point arrives the first important order: the design and manufacturing for Cinecittà of the chariots for the American colossal film Ben-Hur, which will be published in 1959. He stays in Vicolo della Frusta until the end of the 1960s, a period in which he dedicated himself to his favorite activity: the design of his own pieces and the relations with people.
