$175,000List Price
About the Item
This extraordinary table represents the epitome of superior craftsmanship. It was crafted in the second half of the 19th century from the finest Cuban mahogany and satinwood inlays. What makes this antique table so exceptional is its unique key mechanism. At the center of the table is a series of locks that are opened only by a special set of custom brass keys. There are six individual keys that correspond to individual drawers on the table, and one large master key that opens all six. Each drawer reveals individual gaming stations that contain a myriad of game pieces and boards to play everything from chess, dominos and cribbage to backgammon and horseracing, to name just a few. Each station is fashioned with a sliding cocktail glass support and a compartment to store each station's brass key.
By far, this is the most sophisticated and simply stunning games tables we have ever had the pleasure to offer. In terms of quality and intriguing provenance, the Albemarle Club games table is undoubtedly, the best of the best.
The brass key lock mechanism is inscribed "The Albemarle Club"

65 1/8" diameter x 30 1/4" high
The Albemarle Club was a private club founded in 1874, that derived its name from the London street on which it was located. The club catered to both men and women and was more bohemian in character than many other prestigious organizations that catered to the affluent. The famed literary figure Oscar Wilde was perhaps its most prominent and notorious member.
