Gio Ponti pair of walnut and blue formica occasional tables, Italy, circa 1950

About the Item

A pair of rare wooden and blue formica side tables, of Italian craftsmanship, designed by Gio Ponti. This pair of occasional tables bears the signature of the great Italian designer Gio Ponti, who, with the same care and attention devoted to grand architectures, created two small furnishing complements with immediately recognizable lines. A round wooden disk, supported by three legs meeting in a small supporting surface, compose a piece of furniture in a constant interplay of allusions and references to all the other interior designs of the Milanese architect, who made elusive lines and sharp profiles his signature. Particularly pleasing is also the blue color chosen to cover the surfaces of the two tables, a refined shade that lends personality and elegance to a widely used material like formica, too often employed only for its functional qualities and not understood in its aesthetic potential. Usable in various living contexts, this pair of tables is destined to be incorporated into a decor where attention to detail represents a balance between personal taste, historical value of the object, and functionality. The furniture is original, accompanied by expertise from the Ponti archive, and has been professionally restored and finished. The measurements are: diameter 51 cm, height 65 cm.
