Burnt Wood Stump
By Bertu Furniture
Located in Oak Harbor, OH
Please scroll down to read IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS ABOUT OUR STUMPS before purchase! Originating in 18th century Japan, shou sugi ban is a particularly striking method of preserving wood by charring it with fire. Traditionally, this practice is used with Japanese cedar in order to weatherproof it. The wood is burned until the surface is charred, and then coated with natural oil. Why buy our stumps? KILN DRIED Our stumps all go through a drying process in our kiln, sometimes for up to a month. We are meticulous with bringing each and every log to a specific moisture level. This process helps with major cracking, long-term moisture issues, and bugs. ECO FRIENDLY In an effort to replenish the trees we use, we plant 50+ trees a year. In addition, we practice salvage logging. Where do we source these? Some of the trees fall naturally. Some have damage from severe wind, lightning, flood, disease, or other natural disturbance so they need to be cut and removed before they fall. Others are fresh cut because people want them off their land. Salvage logging may reduce erosion, reduce intensity of future wildfires, and slow buildup of pest insects. FAMILY OWNED These are made from our family to yours. Quality is of utmost importance, and we hand cut, de-bark, sand, and finish every piece with care. COMMERCIAL GRADE These stumps are meant to be loved and USED. Each is finished with a durable commercial-grade finish. This finish is tough enough for spills, kids, and holds up in hotel and hospitality settings. This Burnt Wood Stump is hand sculpted in the heart of Ohio out of a solid truck of local red cedar. The side table can be used for a nightstand, a stool, or grouped together for an architectural larger table. They are great next to a chair, sofa, or bathtub. Each stump is made from a solid trunk of red cedar and is hand sawed, sanded, and burned until completely charred. They are then sprayed with a clear commercial grade finish. These can be burned fully or the tops left raw to expose the beautiful red cedar color. Every part of the process is handled with care - even the bark is hand chipped and sanded to honor the unique markings of each tree. Note: These are REAL tree stumps. Natural movement and cracking is normal. These are all slightly different in character and they may vary in size - No two pieces are exactly alike. These are true pieces of art! IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT OUR STUMPS... 1. Please unpack your stump immediately and leave it out of any packaging. These are real pieces of wood and need to breathe! 2. The shou sugi ban finish is delicate. We try our best to put an extra thick coat of finish on the product, but we will not be held liable for damages on walls or furniture if finish chips exposing black. 3. For OUTDOOR stumps...

Industrial Blacksmith Anvil Stand Now Folk Art Painted Iron End Table or Stool
Located in Forney, TX
A rare and unusual vintage industrial American folk art work, signed and dated (see below for artist info) This visually striking one of a kind example repurposed from an old fashioned cast iron Blacksmith's anvil stand, originally used for forging metalwork, now fashioned as a functional low table (end table - display pedestal - plant stand - stool) Sculptural tapering square pyramid shaped iron base with open arches, in later matte black paint retaining the original heavily worn patinated texture, accented with hand painted devil figure dancing in fire of red and orange hued flames, mounted on wood plank rail risers, topped with a round metal disc top. Artist signed to leg interior: "Painted by J.R. Lucie Christmas 1985" (James R. Lucie) Iron stamped: "CHI"? "1400 C" PROVENANCE / ACQUISITION: From the estate of the late Dr. James R. Lucie (United States; 1928-2020) A celebrated knifemaker, journeyman ironworker, talented physician, historian, collector and author. Highly respected by his family, friends, and colleagues for a life defined by deep intelligence, integrity, compassion and a tireless work ethic, Dr. Lucie was truly a master of many trades. The retired medical doctor had a several-year waiting list of people wanting to purchase his hand-forged knives at the time of his death. At one point, Dr. Lucie had the largest collection of knives and ironwork made by William Scagel, and is the author of "Scagel Handmade," published in 2010. Acquired from the above from the highly reputable auction house Austin Auction Gallery, est.1983, Austin, Texas DIMENSIONS (approx): 20" High × 17.5" Diameter CONDITION: Heavy-duty industrial quality, approx 60lbs, extraordinarily strong, sturdy, stable, structurally sound. Good original antique / vintage condition with nicely aged warm patina. Heavily patinated surface.
