Japanese Antique Large Low Table 1860s-1920s / Coffee Table Wabi Sabi

About the Item

Very old low table made in Japan. Simple design with a single board on a stump. The furniture is from the Meiji period (1860s-1920s). The top wood board is zelkova type wood. The stump is camphor wood. Each material itself is very unique and very sturdy. The thickness of the top board is about 65mm. It is a precious single piece of wood. There will be some warping due to the one-piece nature of the board. The taste of the top board and the presence of the stump match beautifully. It has a very strong and dynamic impression. It is a versatile furniture that can be used as a sofa table, side table, or coffee table. From this item, one senses the spirit of wabi-sabi, the Japanese philosophy of finding beauty in imperfection and impermanence. It is the opposite of vulgarity, the beauty of modesty and modesty, the beauty of the unconventional. This is a unique and very rare item. Weight Wooden board: 31 kg Stump: approx. 30 kg Since ancient times, people have created and passed down necessary tools from familiar materials to survive in the severe struggle against nature, and have nurtured a lifestyle culture. By using these objects over a long period of time, they accumulate a flavor and reflect a way of life. The more severe the natural environment and the weaker we are, the stronger their power becomes. In today's world, where cheap and disposable products are encouraged, the act of repeatedly re-creating the things around us by modifying them opens up a new world. With this philosophy in mind, we collect beautiful, powerful, and unique carefully selected antiquities from Japan.
