French 19th Century 1st Empire Period Ormolu, Mahogany and Marble Vanity Table

About the Item

A handsome and most impressive French 19th century 1st Empire period ormolu, flamed mahogany, and Portoro marble mirrored vanity table. The vanity is raised by its original casters below an elegant bottom tier with a most decorative concave front. Striking architectural columns lead up each side each displaying richly chased foliate plinths and capitals. The frieze displays one drawer centered by intricately detailed pierced ormolu mounts with a floral urn and two-winged maidens flying toward each other while holding beautiful scrolled rinceau shaped foliate movements. Above each column and at the corner of the drawer, are wonderfully executed ormolu mounts of charming winged cherubs tending to the feet of elegant women dressed in period attire. Resting above is the original Portoro marble top with a fine mottled border. Above is the original mirror plate framed within an elegant arch-shaped mahogany border with a beautiful and richly chased ormolu band with a lovely berried laurel design. To each side are impressive circular columns with fine ormolu plinths and capitals with striking ormolu urns above. All original rich fire gilding throughout.
