Plaster Maquette of Red Rum by Annette Yarrow

About the Item

An impressive large plaster maquette statue of 20th century champion racehorse Red Rum by sculptor Annette Yarrow. This would’ve been used to create the original in bronze. Red Rum was a thoroughbred steeplechaser who won the esteemed Grand National at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool, UK three times: first in 1973, then again in 1974 and finally in 1977. Commissioned in 1978, this maquette by Annette Yarrow (B. 1932) stands at half life-size, depicting the stance and profile of champion racehorse Red Rum in lifelike detail. This impressive horse statue is a spectacular display piece for the interior of a prestigious countryside estate or a spacious converted barn where Red Rum can be enjoyed in all its glory. Old value This half life size Maquette of the champion thoroughbred steeplechaser Red Rum, commissioned in 1978, was used to create the bronze sculpture that stands in Southport. The sculptor, Annette Yarrow (B. 1932 ) also created the full size figure of Red Rum at Aintree Racecourse.

Bronze study of a stretching cheetah. RHS under the belly bearing Ingwe Foundry stamp, ‘S31’ or ‘S3I’, Edition 3/15, monogram BMR. Artist unknown. I have been unsuccessfully resarching who the artist could be. The stretching pose of the cheetah is contemplative with a graceful, ease and content expression suggesting its attunement and hierarchy within the landscape and the animal world. Its power is conveyed with a noble quality in the pose, the sleek form and the sinewy musculature. Beautifully handworked with rich brown patina. Almost certainly inspired by the work of Dylan Lewis...
