'Cinétisme I' Wall Cabinet by Charles Kalpakian
By Charles Kalpakian
Located in Paris, FR
'Cinétisme I’ by French Lebanese Charles Kalpakian is a hypnotic wall cabinet in lacquered wood and chestnut flirting with Op Art and the spirit of Vasarely. While capturing the viewer’s gaze, it can be used to welcome books and showcase small objects - either on the black shelves...

Large Pair of Sevres Style Napoleonic Painted Porcelain Chargers
By Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres
Located in London, GB
A large pair of Sevres style Napoleonic painted porcelain chargers French, 19th century Measures: 2cm high x 45cm in diameter, frames 51cm diameter Excellently painted and finely crafted, these unusually grand Sevres style painted porcelain chargers are adorned with scenes of French military victories. The first charger, marked 'Bataille de Wagram, 7 Juillet 1809' is after a painting by Horace Vernet of Napoleon at the Battle of Wagram, a decisive yet costly victory for the French allied forced over the Austrian army, and the second, after a painting by Francois Bouchot, depicts the Battle of Zurich (the charger is marked 'Bataille de Zurich 25 Septembre 1799') an earlier battle in which the Republican French army led by André Masséna triumphed over an Austrian and Russian force in Switzerland in 1799. 'Les Quatre Eléments' by Pierre Victor Galland
Located in Brighton, West Sussex
Pierre-Victor GALLAND (1822-1892) ‘Les Quatre Eléments’ Four, oil on canvas. France, Circa 1873. Each painting depicting one of the cardinal elements personified as a female figure in the presence of its most evident attribute. Painted with strong light and colour. Earth panel depicts one of the four elements in a compelling fashion with an ascendent female figure robed in flowing drapery with foot and arm extended reaching skyward: each with attendant putti below. Earth is shown swathed in robes of greens and white, with a fanciful foliate headdress of lush leaves and bullrushes. Air leaps effortlessly into the sky draped in blush pink and holding a slender fruiting bough. Fire ascends dramatically into the sky holding forth a flaming torch and draped in bright burnished orange and grey, her image seemingly lit from a fire kindled below by an ignipotent putto. Water suitably draped in billowing azure blue with a translucent undergarment, holds aloft a bubble representing water is portrayed with shimmering translucent wings, an attendant winged putto pulling at her hem. Under the Second Empire, Haussmann’s transformation of Paris went hand in hand with the construction of luxurious mansions for the new haute bourgeois. Gallards extensive work for wealthy patrons such as Lionel de Rothschild and Edouard André, led him to become one of Paris’s most admired and sought-after decorative artists. His fame quickly spread and led him to carry out projects outside the capital for, among others, Baron von Derwies in Nice, Prince Narischkine in Saint Petersburg and William Vanderbilt in the United States. Literature Pierre-Victor Galland, Un Tiepolo français au XIXe siècle. Published in 2006, Somogy, Piscine-musée d'art et d'industrie André Diligent, Musée départemental de l'Oise (Paris, Roubaix, Beauvais). ISBN 978-2-7572-0027-8. (in French) Materials Oil on Canvas Provenance Acquired in France with four other panels (The Four Seasons), at the end of the 19th century by Herman Ossian Armour (1837-1901), businessman, and founder of the Armour Meat Company and American humanist. He brought them back to his USA residence at Fifth Avenue, New York Bequeathed to Mary Armour...

Claudius Linossier Dinanderie "Maenad" Charger
By Claudius Linossier
Located in New York, NY
This French Art Deco Charger, by Claudius Linossier, was created using the technique known as dinanderie, which involved decorating hammering out copper vessels to produce subtle but beautiful gradations of color. The charger features a Maenad, a female follower of Dionysus. During the orgiastic rites of Dionysus, maenads roamed the mountains possessed by the god, performing frenzied, ecstatic dances. These Maenads were often depicted on attic pottery...

Antique Limoges Enamel Portrait of Woman and Lap Dog
Located in London, GB
The beautiful enamel plaque was crafted in Limoges, a town in northern France. Limoges has long been associated with the production of high quality enamel wares. While to begin with, in the 12th Century, the town was famous for its applied enamel pieces, religious icons, for example, which were crafted in metal with champlevé enamel ornament, Limoges later, in the 15th century, began to paint onto enamel, creating plaques, plates and ewers, which were both religious and secular in character. These local techniques were revived in the mid-19th century, when items like this enamel portrait painting were produced. This enamel portrait is a half-length depiction of a young woman. While her body is faced slightly to the side, she turns her head to look out directly at the viewer. The woman wears a fine, light pink gown...

Pair of Renaissance style enamel plaques in giltwood frames French, 19th Century Dimensions: Frames: Height 24cm, width 18cm, depth 3cm Plaques: Height 13cm, width 10cm Held in ornately carved neoclassical giltwood frames, these Limoges enamel plaques depict two men rendered in the historicised Renaissance style. The frames feature oval openings, with laurel wreath carvings and bows to the top. Both plaques depict bust-length portraits of men, shown in three-quarter profile with laurel wreaths adorning their heads. They are both painted in a style that evokes the portraiture of the 16th century, with great care taken to render the details of each sitter’s face, and expressive brushstrokes for the background and clothing. The younger of the men wears a deep orange shirt...

Miguel Cisterna, Embroidered Fabric Panel, France, 2016
By Miguel Cisterna
Located in New York, NY
Equally elegant and exotic, Miguel Cisterna’s works imbue the classical French tradition of fine embroidery with a modern sensibility. His hand sewn, labor intensive designs layer contrasting materials to create one-of-a-kind haute couture embroidered textiles. Raffia is wrought into shafts of wheat gently bending into the wind, insects crafted from wire and shell hover and crawl, floral designs sparkle with crystal embellishments, and the fragile elegance of humanity is made apparent through anatomical drawings in thread. Born in Chile, Miguel Cisterna now lives and works in Paris. Prior to opening his Parisian atelier...
