About the Item
An interesting piece of World War II Militaria consisting of a chalk sketch or drawing of three US Military personnel in combat with guns in hand riding on what appears to be a 1943 Ford M20 Armored Command Vehicle. The last photo in the photo gallery is of such an actuak vehicle. The sketch is signed M Russeau dated 45 ( for 1945) and is presented in a glass fronted simple black frame
The drawing was acquired from an Antiques and Art Auction in Belgium and could have very well been executed by the artist "live" in the first few months of 1945. This of course is speculative .
Between June 1944 and May, 1945, there were more than half a million U.S. casualties in the European theater of operations. Of those, 105000 were killed in action.
In January 1945 , U.S. Army soldiers were still battling against German forces that had launched the Battle of the Bulge. the last major German offensive on the Western Front during World War II. That battle was the largest the U.S. Army ever fought and out of the 90,000 casualties around 19,000 soldiers were killed.
