About the Item
Mysterious and ethereal, this lovely drawing of a semi-nude male figure, carrying a caduceus and small jar, no doubt representing Mercury is clearly allegorical and suggestive of a personal story. Drawn by N. Cobb in 1928, it is dedicated to "K.V.," a friend of colleague, perhaps at the American Academy in Rome or another school which gave American artists an opportunity to practice and refine their work. In the distance is a town perched on the edge of the Mediterranean Sea. The drawing is executed in pencil on paper; dimensions include matte and frame.
