18th Century Framed Oil Painting on Canvas of Nativity ~ Flemish School

About the Item

18th Century Framed Oil Painting on Canvas of Nativity ~ Flemish School is an amazingly inspirational work, displaying the influences of the Old Masters in the setting, composition, lighting and palette to create a moving scene of the Adoration of the Magi. Mary has just opened the swaddling cloth to reveal the Baby Jesus as a Heavenly light shines down to illuminate the scene. The peaceful expression on the Baby Jesus combines with the reverence of those gathered around the crib to create the Divine scene. As is the case with many devotional works, the artist has chosen to remain anonymous, most probably donating the work to his local church with the utmost humility. Expertly reinforced in the back with new canvas and re-framed prior to our acquisition in Europe, making it ready to provide comfort and enjoyment for many more decades to come. Circa 1780s. Measures 25H x 20.5W x 1.5D
