18th Century Italian Painting by the Painter Scipione Cignaroli

About the Item

18th century Italian painting by the painter Scipione Cignaroli. The valuable oil painting on canvas depicts a landscape of the Italian countryside with wayfarers on the banks of the river, with a contemporary frame (18th century). The painting shows a body of water in the foreground with some travellers. In the background you can see the mountains and a castle in the distance. This painting, in which the hand of the painter can be observed who with short touches and quick brushstrokes was able to give vivacity and freshness to the scene depicted, is a valuable work with strong decorative connotations. The pleasant subject and the size make the work easy to insert in any official or private context. The work is in excellent condition, immediately cleaned and relined. Scipione is the son of Ludovica Bianca Mussi and Martino Cignaroli, belonging to a family of artists of which it seems that Giambettino Cignaroli was the progenitor. Active alongside his father, residing in Turin since 1718, he trained in Milan with Peter Muller, known as il Tempesta, and in Rome on the works of Dughet, Poussin and Salvator Rosa. From 1722 he worked at the Royal Palace of Turin with his father, then at the castle of Rivoli. In 1725 he executed eight large paintings representing landscapes and seascapes now conserved in the castle of Agliè. He was active from 1735 at the Marquis of Guarene and at the Venaria Reale in 1737 with some landscapes. From 1739 he received large orders from the castle of Stupinigi and the Royal Palace. He died on December 9, 1753. In the last years of his life Scipione evolves in "rocaille" updates, without however distorting the Arcadian and idealizing style typical of his previous works. Scipione's painting, intense and light at the same time, was appreciated not only within the court of Turin but also among the nobility who requested his paintings to embellish their country villas. His works are collected internationally. The work was viewed by Professor Cottino (one of the leading experts of 18th century Italian painting.) With the painting you can ask for the guarantee certificate issued directly by Professor Cottino.
