    XVI secolo, Padova Uomo d’Arme Olio su tela, cm 56 x 48 Con cornice, cm 77 x 68 L’opera raccoglie la grande tradizione pittorica ritrattistica che vide in Tiziano uno dei massimi interpreti. I ritratti successivi di Lorenzo Lotto e di Giovanni Battista Moroni, pure impreziositi da luminosi dettagli del quotidiano, continuarono a riflettere l’ideale veneto dell’immagine di potere, coniata entro il territorio di Venezia e poi diffuso entro l’intera Serenissima. Tralasciando i dettagli individualizzanti e qui aggiunti dall’artista verosimilmente padovano, autore del presente dipinto, la tela esaminata richiama a viva voce alcuni dei più importanti ritratti tizianeschi, punto di passaggio obbligato per una riflessione sul tema (Ritratto del conte Antonio Porcia e Brugnera, Milano, Pinacoteca di Brera). L’impianto generale, presumibilmente uno studio per o di un dipinto più grande, considerato l’oggetto che l’uomo tiene tra le mani e che fa capolino dal lato inferiore della tela, rispetta la composizione canonica degli uomini d’arme in tenuta celebrativa: è possibile ricordare a questo proposito il Ritratto di Alfonso d’Avalos, marchese di Vasto, con paggio di Tiziano (Los Angeles, Getty Centre), il Ritratto di Alfonso I d'Este, copia dell'originale di Tiziano (Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York) e il Ritratto di Giovanni Battista di Castaldo (Dickinson Gallery...
