About the Item
A watercolor on paper painting "Pastoreando en el Monte" (Shepherding on the Mount) by British landscape painter Daniel Thomas Egerton. The scene depicts a pair of goats walking around a rocky mountain with a foggy forest on the back. The painting is signed, titled and signed 1840.
Daniel Thomas Egerton (1797 - 1842) was a British landscape painter. He was a founding member of the Society of British Artists (SBA), where he exhibited his early work. He would travel to Mexico in different periods, where he painted an important series of landscapes. His lithographs "Egerton's Views of Mexico" were very well known in the early Victorian era. He was murdered near Mexico City in 1842 under strange cincumstances at age 45.
