David Roth "Irreducible Motif #17"

About

Interference paint on tempered masonite, titled "Irreducible Motif #17; by David Roth, 2008. Roth (b. 1942) studied with Aaron Siskind and Harry Callahan at the Chicago Institute of Design in the early 1960s. He was represented by New York City's Robert Elkon Gallery in the 1970s, and his works are in numerous museums, such as the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Albright Knox Museum, as well as in corporate and private collections. He has experimented with the optical qualities of color throughout his career--a Bauhaus project--and in Interference found a medium that permits shifts in color with changing incidence of light and viewer position. The present work modulates subtly among orange, green, and blue (see photos). Signed on back.
