About the Item
A mid-century modern expressionist acrylic and oil painting on canvas of moored sailboats by important northern California artist Daniel “Danny” Garcia (b. 1929–2012).
Monterey-born, Carmel-by-the-Sea-based artist and gallery owner Danny Garcia was a prolific painter and influential sculptor whose work embodied California coastal themes. This particular work is defined by a somewhat ominous black, white, and red color palette, with thickly applied paint adding textural depth and complexity. Signed “Garcia” at lower right.
In original ebonized wood frame with stepped ecru linen mat and painted wood trim. Signed, numbered, described, and dated on verso. 1968 copyright stamp on stretcher. Affixed to the back is a great 1960s artist bio card from the Garcia Gallery in Carmel-by-the-Sea, which he started with his wife in the 1950s.
