Early 17th Century School of Peter Paul Rubens “The Holy Family” Oil on Canvas

About the Item

This is an absolutely incredible early 17th century oil on canvas painting representing Holy Family-Virgin Mary, St.Joseph, St. Elisabeth, John the Baptist and Baby Jesus. Sir Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640) was one of the greatest and extraordinary Flemish baroque painters. His masterpieces include portraits and landscapes, but best known Rubens was for his religious and mythological compositions. In the early 1600s Sir Peter Paul Rubens traveled and studied in Italy, he visited Venice, Mantua, Florence and Rome where he got deeply inspired by Masters like Titian, Veronese, Raphael and Michelangelo to name a few. He as well became in inspiration himself for a lot of Italian Masters of his time, like Pietro da Cortona and Luca Giordano. This magnificent and an epic quality painting painted on canvas but was mounted on the board to preserve centuries old canvas. It is a definitely early 17th century masterpiece and most likely belong to a school of Rubens, although his early works either disappeared or haven't been discovered which leaves a possibility to think it might be painted by Rubens himself which need to be researched further. The art of Peter Paul Rubens is a wild fusion of the traditions of Flemish realism from one side and the Classicising tendencies of the Italian Renaissance from another. The size of the painting itself without the frame is 42 cm hight and 32 cm width. The frame is a magnificent piece of art on its own, gold gilded and hand crafted in around 1800s with beautiful and rich ornaments. This painting is dynamic, vivid and just a terrific piece of art and is most certainly a fantastic addition to any collection or a house interior.
