Artist: Edoardo Krumm Italian (Torino 1916- 1993) Oil on Canvas laid on board Title: probably a "Largo di Garda scene" in which he painted several views in the 1970s Period: 1970s Artwork dimensions: 50 x 70cm Signed: at the back "Krumm" Condition Excellent and unmolested: Inspected under UV light with no signs of retouching or any intervention. Professionally cleaned, original canvas support laid on board. Offered unframed BIO Frequenta la prestigiosa Accademia di Brera a Milano sotto la guida di Giuseppe Palanti, Gianfranco Campestrini e Giovanni Lentini. In particolar modo, la vivacità cromatica e la forza espressiva dei ritratti del Palanti gli forniscono una base “tradizionalista” per avviare quell’opera di ricerca e di scoperta di un proprio personale linguaggio. Dipinge fino alla seconda guerra mondiale, poi viene chiamato alle armi e fatto prigioniero l’8 settembre 1943, viene deportato dai tedeschi nei campi di concentramento in Polonia. Trasferito in Germania nel campo di Sandbostel, viene successivamente tradotto a Barmbek nella città di Amburgo, dove lavora come aiutante muratore. Qui, grazie alle sue doti di pittore, viene notato e comincia a dipingere su commissione ritratti di ufficiali e scene di guerra. Al termine della guerra rientra in Italia e riprende la sua attività, impegnandosi in una ricerca che durerà diversi decenni sui vari temi della pittura contemporanea, unendola alla lezione dei classici su cui si era formato nel periodo accademico.
