Ducks in a Picturesque Garden
Oil on canvas unsigned circa early 19th century unframed
Item # 105XGP02A
A very decorative Italianate landscape depicting a pair of anthropomorphized ducks in a picturesque garden. Hints of ruins lay in waste by the edge of the stream while a large collection of flowers are the focal point of the image, these seated under sublime light upon an ancient stone plinth while a small pair of waterfalls can be seen in the distance. An early unsigned decorative work made most pleasant by its whimsical charm and playful nature.
Measurements: 34 1/8" H x 26" W x 7/8" deep
Condition Report:
Quite old but well-preserved. Our conservator cleaned the surface, tightened the surface of the canvas, inpainted any losses and then sealed in a traditional damar varnish. Sits on original stretcher bars with replaced keys. Unframed. Under UV the spots of inpainting are visible as flares (see the clouds, the flying bird, a few specks in the ducks, some other spots). A nice presentation.
