About the Item

Gouache on paper of an atmospheric wintry forest scene signed Robb Beebe (1891-1966); the serene tonal painting with its limited palette and harmonizing colors depicting an impressionistic, hilly wintry scene; Robb Beebe began his art training in 1910 at the Cleveland School of Art; post-university studies led Beebe to the Art Institute of Chicago. In 1913, he began using the name Robb Beebe with it unusual spelling. In the 1930's Beebe worked as an illustrator for the pulp magazine, All Story Love Tales while contributing to Women's World, Collier's and McCalls. He and his wife continued to write and illustrate children's books for the next two decades.
