About the Item

Large oil on canvas painting by Richard Cook titled "Beautiful Field", circa 2012. Richard is a British artist born in 1947 who studied at St. Martins School of Art in London from 1966-1970 and then at The Royal College of Art (also in London) until 1973. Richard shared a studio with his teacher and mentor Leon Kossoff in the early 1970s for 3 years. And participated in important group exhibitions including "The Human Clay" organized by artist and writer R. B. Kitaj for The British Arts Council in 1976 which included works by Lucian Freud, David Hockney, Peter Blake, Frank Auerbach, Francis Bacon and many other prominent and respected artists. Richard went onto develop his own unique oeuvre inspired by the land and seascapes in the South West corner of England. He has exhibited widely for 35 years and received awards from the British Council and The Arts Council. His work is held in numerous private collections around the world, while also being represented in public collections including The British Museum, Tate Gallery of London, Manchester City Art Gallery, The Arts Council of Great Britain and the Tate St. Ives. We are pleased to offer Richard's work in America after enthusiastic collectors and supporters sought to make his work more widely known and appreciated.
