Large Original Signed Watercolor by Ivan McDougal (1927-2005)
About the Item
Ivan McDougal (1927- 2005) was a San Antonio, TX artist and longtime Texas painter. He was born in Lometa and studied at the Schreiner Institute in Kerrville, at Trinity University, and in Chicago at the Academy of Art. He taught many workshops and was a member of the San Antonio Art League of which in 1978, he was voted Artist of the Year, and his work is in the permanent collection of that city's McNay Art Museum.
We feel this work represents the pinnacle of Mr McDougal's work, in the tone and feel and hyper-realist representation of a simple moment in time.
The clothing, the architecture and the scene overall give the viewer a peek into the world that Mr. McDougal may have found at once ordinary and yet, extraordinarily of a place he knew well and felt worthy of such clear and detailed representation.
The painting is on hiqh quality, very toothy, thick watercolor paper and is signed lower right. We have removed the piece from its dated frame and are in process of re-framing the piece in a contemporary wood frame worthy of the work.
