Extraordinary Illustration of Pushkin’s Fairy Tale “Tsar Saltan” in oil on canvas. The large format pictures a very colorful scene in the palace of Tsar Saltan. “Three fair maiden late one night sat and spun the wool” (Pushkin) This painting is witness to the rich culture of Ukrainian Folk Art. It is filled with fantastic fairy tale characters who create a unique and attractive scene.The painting is signed in the floor tiles -Irina Makarova Vycheslavsky Kiev-.The artist was born in 1950 in Kiev, Ukraine. The illustration was created by her in the 1970’s. She displays a pure talent of Russian Folk Art which expresses itself in all the elements of this painting. Garlands and two mythical creatures, “Zaltys and Alkonost” surround the action in a perfect stage setting.
