Oil on Canvas Portrait “WWI German Field Marshal” by Franz Triebsch 1939

About the Item

This striking oil on canvas portrait, titled “WWI German Field Marshal” by renowned artist Franz Triebsch, dates to 1939. The subject of the painting is depicted in full regalia, with an air of solemn dignity and authority that reflects the status of a high-ranking officer in the German military during World War I. The bold red uniform, adorned with medals and the distinctive black and white cloak of the Knights Hospitaller, conveys both prestige and honor. Triebsch’s careful attention to detail, particularly in capturing the subject’s serious expression, speaks to his skill as a portraitist. The background is stark and dark, drawing all focus to the Field Marshal’s presence, while his left hand rests on a sword — a symbol of his military command. This piece is painted with vivid strokes that lend a sense of life to the figure, with Triebsch’s distinct style emphasizing the uniform’s intricate textures and the gleaming decorations, as well as the sharpness of the face and posture. The artist, Franz Triebsch, was known for creating compelling military portraits that captured the essence of the military elite during turbulent times. The painting bears the artist’s signature and the year 1939, aligning with a period when such military figures were often depicted as symbols of national pride. This piece would be an excellent addition to a collection focused on historical military art, offering a glimpse into the elite circles of pre-World War II Germany. 45h x 34w x 2d

Franz Mörscher, still life 1953, oil on canvas
By Franz Mörscher
Located in Saarbrücken, SL
Franz Mörscher The composition of the painting is deliberately designed for reduction and corresponds to the idea of cultural minimalism and the new objectivity that developed in the 20th century. Mörscher chooses the rational, crystalline form of the representation of selected objects (vases, lemon, fruits?) and uses color as surface and line to create structure in the space. In this composition, Mörscher reduces the classical means of perspective to create a pictorial space between object light and color. The application of paint appears partially modeled. The natural crack and fissure network (Krakelee) of the sometimes layered paint application seems to be deliberately achieved. The selection of the depicted objects is possibly also based on symbolic aspects. After the desolation of the war years, the painting speaks of the color world of the spirit of optimism of the 1950s. W 63 x H 50 Measures with frame: W 71 x H 58 Biography Franz Mörscher was born on November 7th, 1931 in Bundenbach and died on July 14th, 2018 in Neunkirchen (Saar). Besides the sculptor Hubert Nietsch, he was the second artist to set a monument to the miner’s cow in public space in Germany from 1993 to 1995. Franz Mörscher studied from 1951 at the School of Arts and Crafts Saarbrücken with Boris Kleint among others in the subjects of painting and sculpture. During his studies he met the photographer Otto Steinert...
