The antique paintings category, Landscape Paintings proposes a Glimpse of Venice with gondola and gondolier in a Venetian canal.  The work depicts a moment of daily life in Venice, painted in warm colors. This is an oil painting on canvas from the late nineteenth or early twentieth century period.   The painting is signed Ch. Godeby, French landscape, historical and genre painter. Godeby Charles Léon (1866-1952) was born and trained in Rennes. He exhibited in Paris at the Salon des artistes français and became a member in 1890. In 1897 he received several third-class medals and a travel grant. In 1900 he received a bronze medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris. In 1911 he received the Rosa Bonheur award. In 1927 he received the James Bertrand Award. Numerous paintings by this artist can be found in various French museums. The antique painting bears an original carved wooden lacquered frame.
