About the Item
“Mad Max” 35”W x 47”H. Mixed-Media original painting. Using a layers of acrylic and hand-made plaster circles on recycled canvas. 2024. Signed on verso: George Teixeira Machado. Unframed. (Meant to be displayed without a frame).
This is a large contemporary neutral color organic style abstract. Inspired by the Beverly Hills movie mogul homes in the 50s - 70s, it has a vintage 1970s style to this work. He visited many of those homes of directors, producers and studio heads in Trousdale Estates, Bel Air and Beverly Hills in the 80s, living and working in the fashion industry.
George T Machado was a well known men’s fashion designer for 25 plus years. After moving to Palm Springs in 1999, he opened an interior design retail shop and started doing art at age 64 after decades of wanting to paint and create fine art. These are the early paintings done by Machado. Working obsessively on one painting a month he still continues to paint in his retirement in Palm Springs.

Angela Kosta Driessen, also known as Angela Kosta, was a contributor to the 1966 "Artists Tower of Protest" (also known as "The Peace Tower"). The Peace Tower was a 58 foot steel tetrahedron which was erected in 1966 on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles to protest the Vietnam War. The structure had 418 panels attached to it and it was designed by the sculptor Mark di Suvero. Artists from around the world contributed to the tower, including Elaine de Kooning, Roy Lichtenstein, and Robert Rauschenberg (who provided the bulk of the funding to complete the work).
